 Last Sunday, September 11, I wandered uptown to Madison Square Park, where the US Open tennis tournament was being broadcast on a large screen thanks to a corporate sponsor. And okay, I have the credit card. That got you access to one of the beach chairs in front of the screen. I sat down in one and somehow stayed for a slightly hallucinatory six hours, from the women's doubles final through the men's singles.
Here's what it looked like when I got there. Bright, not too many people. (Around here, the gorgeous weather in September gives some people a little chill....

 It was one of those nights. My friend didn't call. I decided to go to the game anyway. But it had started a half hour earlier than I thought. I got back on the train, which wasn't so bad--it's a nice, air-conditioned place to read. I got off at my stop and saw the 16 identical buildings in a row. I'd noticed the other day how over time the decorative cement urns out front had apparently begun to change. Probably there's a lot of history contained in these subtle variations.  Hey, this is going to be one of those periodic eruptions of summernoise! Like for example those beautiful Seals. I've been lucky enough to be out of town, first in Pennsylvania, for a friend's birthday party. While the rest of the crowd went off to the petting zoo, I looked at the butterflies....
and the clouds over the porch...
and the hummingbird...
The next day it was off to Orient, Long Island. Where the weather was glorious. I have no photos of rabbits on lawns, raccoon clans with their eyes glittering in the headlights, or young ospreys practicing landings on their nest...
