This past Sunday, my husband Bob and I decided to go for a hike at the Milne Dam Conservation Park in Markham, Ontario. At one point, this Red-tailed Hawk shocked me, when it landed right above me. The Red-tailed Hawk is so named because of its striking rust-colored or chestnut red tail feathers. I have read that stalking a hawk is no easy task, that you have to sneak up on them when they are looking the other way. Recently I went for a walk here in Toronto, Ontario, in one of our local parks, and by chance, I spotted a Northern Saw-Whet Owl at rest in the thick brush. I have never seen an owl in the wild before, and certainly not one in such close proximity. We have frequented this park for years, and this is the first time we were lucky enough to catch sight of one. I had inadvertently startled the little owl from a neighboring perch, and it flew and landed right in front of my husband, Bob. I was absolutely thrilled...
