I've always been a big fan of the architectural details of Baylor College of Medicine's Cullen Building, even before I was a student in this very building (2nd floor.)
The bas relief sculptures really capture a different era -- the late 40s, a period in American history when the faith that Science was the future, that biomedical research had limitless potential for helping humanity. This was back when people perceived science as curing disease, not creating it. The reception to such ideas is, shall we say, orders of magnitude cooler in the current administration and cultural climate. The imagery is quite...

 God Bless 50hz Lamps
I often cut through the golf course on my walk home. This is the first time I'd noticed that they have a driving range lit with flood lamps. Notice the high-contrast yellow balls.

The park is going to be bulldozed at the end of the season. Do we mourn it? It was incredibly expensive, and worthless but for the kitsch and Texas Cyclone.

 From my father's archives.
These photos are part of a series: World Tour 1978
I've displayed them elsewhere, but I thought it might be nice to post them here once, for y'all to see.
This is part of an ongoing slide scanning project. All of these pics came from basically the first stack I picked out at random of many, many boxes full. If anyone has access to a Nikon Coolscan 4000 or better 35mm slide scanner, please email me at ian dot rees at bcm dot edu.
