Just stepped outside and saw this train graf stopped right in front of me. A graffiti tribute to the victims of September 11, with the text "TO NYC 9-11 TO ALL THOSE IN HEAVEN"
A full view of the railcar, a Burlington Northern TTX autorack car, number TTGX 994877
A closeup of the left side of the graf, detailing the depiction of the Twin Towers of the WTC, the date of the graf (2002), and what I presume is the tag of the artist, although I cannot make it out. I will leave that part of the job for you graf afficionados.

This is the third article of the Heavy MTL concert series.
June 22, 2008. Parc Jean Drapeau. 9:30 PM. Disturbed has just finished their set. Thousands of pumped-up heavy metal fans await the last act of the best metal festival in Montreal this century. Many of these fans saw Iron Maiden rock the house the night before.
They will not be disappointed. They are about to see Mötley Crüe at their finest.
A couple crowd surfers sinking into the crowd.
A series of shots of the big screen to the right of the stage.
YAY BEER!
The final bow.

I was shopping at Costco in the Montreal West Island suburb of Pointe Claire last month, when I saw this beautiful sight:
An absolutely gorgeous Audi R8 sports car.
Parked in FOUR handicapped spaces at once.
With a PARKING TICKET!!! WOOHOO!! JUSTICE!!!
And to top it all off, some jerk with a camera takes pictures of it...
And even posts the plate number on the internet.
LMAO!!! I am SO proud to be that jerk. I even stopped the Pointe Claire public security officer who gave the ticket and asked him how he felt about giving the ticket. He was pretty professional and said he...

When I drove past Montreal's Olympic Stadium shortly after the opening of the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, I noticed something I had never seen before. The torch above the Olympic rings had been lit.
I assume this was a temporary thing, due to Montreal being the site of the 1976 Olympic Games and will probably be extinguished in a few hours when the closing ceremonies conclude in Beijing. Still, it is definitely interesting to see.
A closeup of the torch with the observation deck on the tower of the stadium in the background.
A closeup of the rings, as seen from {Pie-IX...

This is the second post of the Heavy MTL 2008 series. Sorry for taking so long to post the pics from Montreal's premier heavy metal festival, but I have been busy as of late.
Disturbed came on at about 8:25 or so on Sunday night of June 22. They were scheduled to come on at 8:15, but things were running a little late, as Three Days Grace finished off their set.
The wait was definitely worth it. My teenaged kids went missing somewhere near the mosh pit, but I knew they wanted to be as close to the action as they could...

We kicked off summer with a scream in Montreal this year.
The first annual Heavy MTL festival was held at Montreal's Parc Jean Drapeau this weekend. There were 22 different heavy metal bands playing in an open-air setting over the weekend, Staurday, June 21, and Sunday June 22. Parc Jean Drapeau is located on St. Helen's Island, the location of Expo 67 and the 1976 Olympics. We were between the Six Flags La Ronde amusement park and the Casino de Montreal, where the Expo 67 pavillions of Austria, Switzerland and Iran used to be.
There were dual stages set up, so that...

While talking to people in Cabot Square across from the old Montreal Forum on a recent afternoon, I wound up talking to Sammy, a fellow who just recently arrived in the area from Ottawa. He was looking to sell these old LP phonograph records that he had painted his graf on. I immediately started calling it phono-graf, and he liked the name.
He told me he uses the tag Sesame, a play on words for the French "c'est Sammy", or "it's Sammy"
I asked if he would be willing to let me take pictures of his pieces, and he agreed, and then...
