Berwick is a small historic town. It's about as far North East as you can get in England and changed hands between Scotland and England many times, though it's been English now since 1482. It's a walled town right at the mouth of the Tweed. The majority of the walls were rebuilt by Elizabeth when she was concerned about a Scottish-French alliance. Now they make a great place to walk around and view the towns charms. Here's some photos I took while staying there. The artist LS Lowry used to stay in Berwick regularly. is a city in the North of England (West Yorkshire) which, like many Northern cities, such as Manchester, Liverpool and Newcastle, has undergone regeneration and, possibly even more than the three mentioned, has become 'sexy'- with trendy bars, city-centre apartments, posh shops, etc. The glossy new centres are still only part of the story of these cities, though, and all still have large areas of traditional terraced housing. I was at Leeds University in the mid-90's and recently went back for a purely nostalgic visit to which, along with Headingley, is the main area tend to live in...

Beetham Tower, Manchester. One of the latest parts of the regeneration of the city centre. Taken from Castlefield, an area of canals and warehouses converted into bars, homes and businesses - one of the first areas of 'town' to get smartened up.
