With the passing of Brooklyn Dodger great Duke Snyder what better time to start a discussion of the old Brooklyn Dodgers.
This was also prompted by those on the Eastern Parkway thread who started talking about the Dodgers.
I am just barely old enough to remember them. When I was 6 year old my father took me to Game at Ebbets field against the Cincinnati Reds. I remember the fans booing some guy before the game for flexing his muscles. I also recall being a pain in the butt and kept asking my father if when we could go home. Circa 1970's apartment building just off of Rue Verdun, a few blocks from the Mediterranean Sea (and the beach the Israelis used to invade in 1982 and the Americans before them in 1958).
This little gem has escaped destruction in the repeated onslaughts Beirut has survived through the years, though the architect would probably be less than enthused to see the patterns newer and less-posh-than-probably-intended residents have decided to erect across their balcony spaces for privacy.
Our creations live in history, n'est pas? Some describe this as a "pre-war building," but calling anything "pre-war" in this country hardly means anything anymore...
