A city bus and a truck collided in an accident on a Midtown Manhattan street that pinned a 26 year-old bicycle messenger. All that was left behind was the mangled wreck of a bike.

The vehicles collided in the northbound lanes of Madison Avenue at East 40th Street just before 11:00 a.m. The bus was traveling north on Madison Avenue when it collided with the box truck.

A bicycle messenger weaving through traffic, trying to pass between the truck and the bus, somehow ending up caught between the two. He was pinned into a space of six to nine inches between the two vehicles. One of the vehicles began to move and then stopped, trapping him. Another bicycle messenger arrived on the scene moments after and talked about the dangers of this job.

Bicycle Messenger: "It's bad, you know, we have a job and we try to stay safe all day and these cars ain't helping us by doing that."

The messenger was cut out from between the vehicles using the jaws of life. If they tried to move the vehicles, the man could have been killed. He was conscious and taken to Bellevue Hospital, but there is no word on his current condition.

Police have reopened Madison Avenue between East 39th and 40th. The block was closed to traffic, and authorities were diverting traffic to Park Avenue. The cause of the accident was not immediately known.

Lascoff Prescriptions

OK, after Sine's post, Prescriptions, it seems appropriate to post some Rx's of my own. This is from an institution, Lascoff . It's a classic apothecary, offering many cures, tinctures, and "analyses" in its day. I love this mortar...
