I'm not too sure if the building under construction was the Atlantic Avenue Jail... but if anyone remembers this place, please correct me if I'm wrong. This article has been viewed 771 times in the last 5 weeks CartLegger: 17th Oct 2009 - 00:07 GMTYep, thats it--the Brooklyn House of Detention, they call it now! I pass it a few times a week, on my way to the grocery or gym. There are lots of lots of ideas about how to use it in the future. But I am always thinking about its past--which makes a photos like this a fascinating site. Robert: 17th Oct 2009 - 00:54 GMTThank you CartLegger for your prompt answer. Isn't it interesting to find that the place still looks so modern?... I just looked it up on the Bridge and Tunnel Club and it surprised me to see it just about the same as when the photo was taken. Franny Wentzel: 17th Oct 2009 - 02:39 GMTWith all the glass block it looks like a milk bootling plant - one of those 'scientific & hygenic' bottling plant with equipment bought from the 1939 Worlds Fair Robert: 17th Oct 2009 - 14:05 GMTYes, your comment's quite precise, it resembles some kind of pre-war Bauhaus structure. Franny Wentzel: 17th Oct 2009 - 16:52 GMTI've been working on a novel for the last few years but it's not ready yet. Comment on this article..[previous] :: [next] |
