Atlantic Avenue 1956 - 57

I'm not too sure if the building under construction was the Atlantic Avenue Jail... but if anyone remembers this place, please correct me if I'm wrong.
The photo was taken by my mother in 1956 or 1957 (52 or 53 years ago). The boy at the left is me, next to my father and my sister Vivian.

Yep, thats it--the Brooklyn House of Detention, they call it now! I pass it a few times a week, on my way to the grocery or gym. There are lots of lots of ideas about how to use it in the future. But I am always thinking about its past--which makes a photos like this a fascinating site.

Thank you CartLegger for your prompt answer. Isn't it interesting to find that the place still looks so modern?... I just looked it up on the Bridge and Tunnel Club and it surprised me to see it just about the same as when the photo was taken.

Yes, your comment's quite precise, it resembles some kind of pre-war Bauhaus structure.
Seen many of your posts and have really enjoyed them, with photos, Polaroids, Art Deco and all... so, let me ask you, besides being a photographer and a writer... Are you also an architect?
