Tomato Soup Under Brooklyn Bridge

Peter and CartLegger, here´s another image of one of my paintings related to Brooklyn as the one I posted last Sunday which I don't see anymore on your current list of articles.
As mentioned before, I no longer live in Brooklyn, but many of the photographs, texts and memories deal with this Borough and would like to post them here, in this site.
The painting above was finished in 1999, Oil on canvas.

Robert: Very happy to see your work posted here! Please keep your visions flowing, especially as I am too busy teaching and touring to do much.

If something you posted was taken down, it was surely a mistake. All editing is done by volunteers, mostly Peter (with me and a few others helping out) Spam postings tend to pile up on the weekend, and something good can be deleted by mistake from time to time.

Its happened to me, its happened to others. But I hope it does not happen to you again!

Peter: 14th Oct 2009 - 23:50 GMT

are you talking about this post? if so, it might be that the "recent articles" list to the left only lists the ten most recent posts, and many more posts have been posted since sunday.

if you click on your name up there, above the photo, next to "Brooklyn, NY", it will take you to a list of everything youve ever posted on here. the list will grow as you post more, and you can always refer back to it as needed. here is a direct link to that page: citynoise.org/author/Robert

you can also use the searchbox at the top right of every page. like, a search for "Robert's NYC painting" will lead you back to this post ;)

anyway, your art is cool, man... but i particularly dig this one of the bridge over an east river o' blood.

Franny Wentzel: 15th Oct 2009 - 00:21 GMT

Nice to see the twins even if obscured by that bridge I just sold to some gullible Nigerians...

Robert: 15th Oct 2009 - 00:56 GMT

Peter, almost everyone tends to say that it's blood they see on the East River. Actually, I always meant it to be Tomato Soup, as a tribute to the great painter, Andy Warhol. I'm sure he would have loved the idea of pouring tons of tomato soup out of giant Heinz cans. However a bloody river can also be appropriate if placed "On the Waterfront" with Marlon Brandon included.
And I Thank you both, Peter and CartLegger for encouraging me to keep on posting and following this cool site.

Peter: 15th Oct 2009 - 01:15 GMT

yeah, i caught the tomato reference from the title; perhaps its my own bias that doesnt see an artist and tomato soup so much as it does a butcher/surgeon and a river of blood, hahahaha... ok... pardon me while i go crank some ... lol

Robert: 15th Oct 2009 - 01:16 GMT

Franny, nice to hear from you again. I followed the link to MM community.livejournal.com/1962/1233795.html and even when I signed in to the livejournal site, wasn't able to see your post there.
The Nigerians are now probably jumping with glee for the purchase of such an important landmark.

Peter: 15th Oct 2009 - 01:18 GMT

oh and robert... i meant to ask, just out of curiosity... where did you grow up in nyc? where do you live now? why did you leave?

Franny Wentzel: 15th Oct 2009 - 01:31 GMT

The community defaults to a members only access if you don't go back and fix it.

Try it now.

and I just got an e-mail from one of them asking me to help them claim the fund of a bank account left behind by Steve Brodie...

Peter: 15th Oct 2009 - 01:38 GMT

not too long ago, i had one convinced that i was michael bloomberg. for some reason, i get a ton of foreign-wholesale/shipping scams at my cn addy. i tend to toy with them when im bored or feeling creative.

Robert: 15th Oct 2009 - 02:03 GMT

This is getting more than interesting,,, with Nigerians and allĒ
Well, Peter, to answer your questions let me begin by saying that back in 2006 we got in touch right here, it was over an article on Prospect Heights, I mentioned that I had some old photos of the neighborhood, so you emailed me and, somehow, something went wrong with my computer and unfortunately wasn t able to send or post anything.
As a small boy, in the mid fifties, I lived in 334 Dean Street, near Third Av., Boerum Hill , in 1957 moved to New Utrecht Av. and 56 st. in 1958 lived a whole year in 446 St. John s Pl. and in 1959 moved to Woodside, Queens. In 1960 my parents moved to Miami, Fl... so, please, if you don't mind, here's my email address to continue with the answers:

Peter, don't forget to send a few words through my email, seems that I lost your email contact long ago and would like to send you some old photos though the mail.
The photo of the painting above is New York, New York. and I finished around 1998 and "inspired" me to paint the Quadruplets picture a year later. This N.Y., N.Y. painting is hanging on a wall of a private collection in the heart of Manhattan, facing Central Park.
