i had a job like that once. not riveting, but working a job i hated just to get that time-and-a-half overtime and double overtime.
lets see... the williamsburg bridge opened in 1903... the average wage was 22 cents an hour, or about $200-400 a year. riveters probably didnt even make that much. imagine doing heavy labor for about $1 a day?
