Banksy et Al

These are all spitting distance of one another at Old St EC1, that is east central by the way, post code phreaks. all execpt the last which is also my favourite, on Ion Sq E2. The Pulp Fiction one has been there for a living age, and perhaps you have all seen it before, but I havn't seen it here. says (or writes, rather, I don't know him, don't get excited, it's not a village) it was an easy one because the polis here wear peaked caps thus preventing them from looking up! this is a good joke. It also might even be true in the it't funny because it's true school. Anyway don't expect me to always be so selfless. Enjoy!

Thanks for all these great photos of Banksy's inner city works of art elaine. There are so many regurgitated Banksy photos on the web with few fresh perspectives. It's all about perspective. Tourist Information is my persoanl favourite of the ones you've posted here. Thanks for taking the time and the effort to go out there and get these. Much appreciated.

elaine: 23rd Apr 2005 - 18:52 GMT

Tourist information is my favourite too. I included the sticker for you. I assume most people have seen pulp fiction because it ahs been around for so long. I used to see it every day. It has weathered well, and noone has gone over the top of it, whereas the smileys on the bridge are posted up and are really scruffy. The ratty has been up for ages too. I like the way 'nice day' is squished in. I wanted to get one that says 'resistance is fertile' but i came back a different way

this is another view of tourist info, it is just off Hackney Road E2

Jamie: Whoaaah! much big?!

elaine: 23rd Apr 2005 - 19:41 GMT

I know, I am so sorry, hadn't realised I didn't resize, I have emailed to ask for removal; eek!

Jamie: 23rd Apr 2005 - 19:48 GMT

don't worry about it. working on the site right now i'll sort it for ya ;-)

elaine: 25th Apr 2005 - 06:47 GMT

I didn't put the second tourist info pic in because obviously it's a crap photo, and then I got waylaid by the whole issue about resizing - but let me just say 2 things. This pic shows 2 salient points about how this has been placed, one is about being seen, you can see in this pic that there is a little green before it, so it gets good exposure to the bus bound masses, the second is the way it is placed next to the little dump at the back makes it funnier. A third thing you can only know if you are familiar with the area is that the next street is the entrance to a famous market on a Sunday, but which is not obvious to the uninitiated, so there are sometimes 'the lost' around here

hasslehoff: 25th Apr 2005 - 09:26 GMT

whilst the first one better from the perspective of composition, the second one shows the work in context. I have seen this piece in various photos but never got a sense of its environs. So, in this sense, i'm glad you posted it here :-)

elaine: 25th Apr 2005 - 09:30 GMT

yeah, I suddenly wanted to show why it was so well placed, because the close up shows how good it is but not that. What I also havn't shown is that across the road is the big cartoony letters for hackney city farm whaich it contrasts well with.. if I can do some pics of the farm without decending into pastoral schmaltz then I will, but only if! I am not really a photographer as such, and though it is a city farm, it still is chickens and pigs...

hasslehoff: 25th Apr 2005 - 09:47 GMT

we don't object to a bit of wildlife ;-)

i recently saw a program late on at night which opened my eyes to wonders of this artist: Banksy. His work is very inspiring and he takes art onto a whole new level for example opening a gallery that had rats crawling around the floor and the room was in disaister, but even so it is very unique and i wish that i could go to one of these *once in a life in time* opputunitys. Anyway my question is does anyone have a photo of his work "The Policeman Kiss"? I would like to center some of my art work around it and prove a point that gays and lesbians should not feel shy but to infact open up how they feel like in the picture.

Jamie: 10th Nov 2005 - 14:21 GMT

I saw the Banksy documentary on BBC2 the other night also. Didn't reveal much i didn't lready know about him/his work apart from the stuff he put up on the security wall in Palestine. I thought that was pretty interesting.

But to answer your question, yes the Policeman Kiss can be found here in This article from .

From the BBC website: "A piece of graffiti by Bristol artist Banksy has been allowed to stay after what the city council described as "overwhelming support" from the public."
