A Tree Snail in Brooklyn

I was surprised to recently come across some large, boldly-striped tree-snails in my neighborhood in Brooklyn. I always love finding unexpected nature in the City. I was surprised to find them in such a dense urban environment as this industrial lot in , perhaps because I always assumed that they lived in lush jungles or rural areas.

I'm no invertebrate biologist or snail expert (and I'm sure someone who knows more about snails will eventually come across this post and set us all straight), but it seems to me that this might be a , or more exactly, a or perhaps a brown-lipped snail:

We have the same sort of snails around here, too. (southwest Montreal) Striking, aren't they?
