A few years back spotted one of those old-timey sitting by it's lonesome in front of the offices of a summer camp...

must've busted off the door back in his younger days...

image 35586

At least he left the phone book holder intact...

image 35587

Looking inside it seems the phonebook shelf has been dented and deformed from all the homesick campers calling mudder and fadder over the years...

Shawno: Did the phone still work?

Franny Wentzel: Never did bother to try it...

joey: how much do you think a local phone call costs ?

Franny Wentzel: 29th Aug 2009 - 19:24 GMT

This was like five years ago so it was probably still a quarter...

...though I suspect most calls were long distance ones to The City and Long Island.

Incidentally the location of this booth was at the Pine Points Cottage & Motel if you want to see if it's still there...

wow, i was recently talking to someone about how you never see booths like this in the city...

Franny Wentzel: 31st Aug 2009 - 20:03 GMT

Yeah... it seems payphones in general are becoming an endangered species thanks to cellphones...
