Rail buffs, high tail it up the Hudson to Kingston to catch all the rusty, lusty sights!

Take a trolley ride on a real trolley!

see the operating room where they restore real trolleys!
image 35296
clearly there are not enough trolleys left, as they have lots of subway cars, like this early 20th century Path car

This is an incredible find to say the least. But if this is a museum why are so many of the cars in deplorable condition?

Peter: 14th Aug 2009 - 19:16 GMT

woah! please teleptort me there asap...

please post more pics!

Seaniedawg: VERY cool!

ummm...well, its run by buffs, and they are not the most together guys when it comes to funding stuff. These two fellas were there from a trolley museum in Massachussetts salvaging parts from the Path Train before it was scrapped. image 35300
Theres more trains to salvage (or photograph) in the woods above the museum, if anyone is interested!

The reason that some of these cars are the way they are is that some of these cars have been in the museums collection for many years and have been moved several times and they probably were not in the best shape to begin with. Although, they have a good facility and some dedicated volunteers they just dont have enough volunteers (or probably the funds) that can help on the restorations. These restorations can take many thousands of hours to do so they simply dont have the ability to restore all of them. Its really a shame because they had some really unique stuff like a Queensboro Bridge car that was the only one left and it had to be scrapped. So if anyone wants to volunteer time and can get to Kingston I am sure they would love to have your help.

I volunteered there extensively between 1991 and 1994. The biggest problem has always been money, or the lack of it. Then there was always lack of volunteers to do the dirty work and only a handful to do the do more "prestigious" work. There was no shortage of board members ready to attack others at monthly board meetings. After a while, I got sick of the attitudes and lack of thanks from those who were particularly critical, yet did so very little themselves.
