That has got to be the most photographically prolific perambulation ever promogulated...

adam: 7th Aug 2009 - 13:10 GMT

holy amazing street art.. anyone know who the artist is in the 4th picture to the right of the people?

Peter: 7th Aug 2009 - 13:19 GMT

looks like it says "sesos"... which would be funny... livia, arent "sesos" fried brains?

livia: 7th Aug 2009 - 15:21 GMT

One of many for sure Franny ... There's a lot to shoot here ... or I just have to be more selective ...

I really like São Paulo's street art adam but I have no clue of the artist in that picture. I guess it says JeSUS though ...

Yes Peter, that would be funny (sesos) ... I think they are beef brain en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beef_brain , it's not common in here ... probably a spanish dish.

hahaha, yeah... the close-up does look a lot more like "Jesus"...

im really enjoying these series... i guess i never get tired of graf and city shots :)

Franny Wentzel: 7th Aug 2009 - 16:58 GMT

It'd be interesting if you could figure out if the place where this image taken from the September 1962 issue of National Geographic was taken is still around...

image 35105

And take a picture of the view from that balcony today...

image 35107

A view found in the Febrary 1978 National Geographic

image 35106

A view from the March 1987 National Geographic which is above the approximate location...

image 35108

...or I could get off my lazy butt and Googlesat the same view...

Didn't realise the big wiggly building was there in 1962.

image 35109

Has at least three balconies that match with the first picture. though they seem to be covered over now..

Franny Wentzel: 8th Aug 2009 - 16:54 GMT

To make things more interesing Emporis.com lists that wiggly building as being completed in 1966 - though the National Geographic article noted that buildings in Brasil would often remain 'incomplete' for years after tennants moved in for tax purposes.

livia: 11th Aug 2009 - 13:52 GMT

Hi Franny,

These pictures are from city center ... but I can't figure out the place where the first one was taken. Do you know the name of the building (from NatGeo's article)?

Yeah, it would be very interesting to take a picture of the view from that balcony today. I'll do it ... as soon as I find where is that.

That second shot is amazing !!!

I posted something on this building

Yes, the big wiggly building was there in 1962. That's the COPAN ... it's impressive ... skyscraperpage.com/cities/?buildingID=1526
I guess it's in the opposite direction from that first photograph.

Peter: 11th Aug 2009 - 13:57 GMT

wow, how interesting... livia, looks like youre our official brasil correspondent ;)

got any more info, franny? i, too, would love to see what that view looks like today...

Franny Wentzel: 11th Aug 2009 - 16:24 GMT

I've pretty much come to the conclusion that the balcony is from off of the Edificio Copan.

image 35109

You can see three sets of them stick out of the southern façade along with what looks to be an external service core. The google satellite view was as current as what they had the day I posted the reply which is too bad as it looks like the row of houses at the man-on-the-balcony's feet are now gone.

Have you seen my article on brasilia?

Franny Wentzel: 11th Aug 2009 - 16:55 GMT

BTW New York City has it's own wiggly apartment building...

www.emporis.com/application/?nav=building&lng=3&id=114791

...in the Chatham Green Apartments just north of the .

Unfortunately... it wasn't designed by .

livia: 11th Aug 2009 - 17:44 GMT

I just saw your article on Brasilia, really nice. Oscar Niemeyer designed Copan Building too. I'm not a fan of his work in general but I admit he has some interesting buildings ... Ok, my next walk will be an "Oscar Niemeyer's Buildings Tour" .

Oh ... I just managed to go to the COPAN balcony on friday... :)
