Plum Beach Cleanup July 26, 2009

- Sanzay - Thursday, July 23rd, 2009 : goo

[previous] :: [next]

As per insider's tip American Littoral Society www.alsnyc.org/ is hosting another cleanup event citynoise.org/article/1418#78768 at the Sunday, July 26, 2009 9AM. It was promised that besides you and me there will be another group of 100 students picking garbage so be ready to fight for the leftovers ;-)

Unfortunately there are no CSOs to geotag except for the abandoned and soiled pipe at the beginning of the beach.

Stay tuned. Be involved. Get dirty ;-)

Sanzay: 24th Jul 2009 - 13:20 GMT

UPDATE: Event will officially end at noon, but there will be no S.W.A.T. team or even annoying lifeguards to kick you off the beach after the noon. Coordinators will provide bags, gloves, water, etc. By the end of the event empty gloves and bags full of garbage have to be returned back. Note: water does not have to be returned whether consumed or not.

PS: Etc is the very cool thingy because it occurs almost in each and every list of items. As per Google is more than 5 times more popular than even (peace be upon him)!

Stay tuned. I will share more about etc.

It is all started nicely like this beach landscape

And suddenly some ghost called me from this chair.

Ghost said that there is the engine in an East salt marsh

and raise of the dead horseshoe crab.

No one greeted me in the DIY shelter in the dunes.

That is what should be called Hell's Kitchen, not the TV show.

A bit of graffiti on the bridge.

After looking on this under carriage photo of the I would question myself twice before taking this route.

Allegedly it is a Belt Parkway reconstruction in progress.

Just wondering why homeless people do not live here? Simple - it is a graffiti and bottle museum.

It is like the American flag on the Moon but much closer.

NEW YORK CITY BUREAU OF WATER POLLUTION
image 35392
Do we need special bureau to pollute water? How "creative" New Yorkers are?

Accessibility is the highest priority of the New York City.

Swimming in the sand is prohibited when the lifeguards are not on duty.

Sanzay: 20th Aug 2009 - 17:31 GMT

The cleanup event ended gracefully before the rain hit the ground in the afternoon. Besides the boring garbage picking people enjoyed role game of horseshoe crab funeral.
image 35397

Here are the folks from Lead America organization, American Littoral Society and few strangers I invited in rather than kicking them out.

Big Thanks to all sponsors, organizers, participants (and strangers of course) for your efforts to keep beach clean and for the word you spread about this event!

PS: No dumped or abandoned etceteras were found during the beach cleanup, which means that etcetra is too valuable, thingy to be left on the beach.

Stay tuned - there is another international cleanup event scheduled for Sep 19. Load your cameras and check alsnyc.org/cleanup.htm for updates!
