I took this photo in the late 1980s from the walkway on the with my full manual . I remember when I took it it was cold and I don't think that I saw anyone else up there. Even from that distance the looked huge and at that time there were not as many tall buildings around it. I never imagined that about a dozen years later I would be digging on a pile that was only a few stories high of what was left of these buildings.

nice! love the shot, of course... as well as a good reminder of how awful those wooden board walkways were before the major renovation... www.nyc.gov/html/dot/html/bridges/willb.shtml

anyway, these are some of my favorite sorts of photos on here, so... if you have anything else like this, please share it!!

CartLegger: 28th Apr 2009 - 22:32 GMT

Yeah, the bridge before as it looked before liability loonyness and red caged paths. I miss that city I never knew, and felt it for real here. Really nice shot!

I hate the red cages now that I've seen what the bridge used to look like!

A friend of mine saw this on her way downtown the other day. I had to get picture of it before the city cleaned it up (it's in a very wealthy neighborhood so I'm sure the Lexus drivers have...
