CartLegger: 20th Apr 2009 - 07:19 GMTGee whiz! I can't tell with these old fangled photos when the hell these were taken! What is this 1959 or something? Love that last one too. Looks like half of it was superimposed James McD: 21st Apr 2009 - 13:32 GMTSpent almost everyday at Brighton Beach and Coney Island during summer vacations in the 50's. In the 60's it lost all it's charm. Sad. Agamoto: 21st Apr 2009 - 13:37 GMTMaybe it's not so much that it lost its charm as it is that you grew up or moved on. I've heard people lament the exact same thing about Coney, in the 1980s, 1990s, and 2000s. Is there even much let of it to lament these days? Rich: 24th Apr 2009 - 23:26 GMTNice shots, thanks for taking us back (with black and white pix) to a time many of us remember and wouldn't mind going back. The fireworks once a week, many more rides and sideshow attractions, the smell of hot dogs, corn on the cob and cotton candy. I even remember the Steeple Chase. Sean Hopkins: 25th Apr 2009 - 01:42 GMTI would have loved to know what that was like! I only know the Coney of today, yet I love it. I believe that the impact and impressions left on a person is completely relative to a time in the individuals life. I've heard so much about the heyday of Coney and how it's a mere shadow of it's former self, and yet I only recently fell in love with it. I believe there is a magic and allure to it that hasn't died. I took these photos last weekend. I love the effect of Black and White film. I just read in the paper today about the plans for the future of Coney. I wonder what will happen. Comment on this article..[previous] :: [next] |
