Sean already posted the definitive Fort Wadsworth post, but I just wanted to share some
additional photos to flesh the place out, particularly the now-empty gun placements.

Upon its completion in fall 1964, the rendered
(in operation since 1663) virtually useless, at least what of it hadn't already slipped into antiquity.

The entire site is a , and although much of it is clean, secure and manicured,
little of that is publicly-accessible (on any regular basis, outside of tours) and much of the fort
remains a monument to decay as nature slowly begins to take over once again.

With those gothic skies and crazy lighting, I imagine this couple's wedding photos turned out looking pretty metal.
