Dear Unit 9261 of the 84th Precinct, Nothing says Courtesy, Professionalism and Respect like parking in the bike-lane to go in and Until you respect the laws you are paid to enforce and the people you have pledged to advocate, Downtown Brooklyn, NYC... This article has been viewed 2760 times in the last 19 months WTF: 9th Apr 2009 - 04:18 GMTDear Armchair Hipster Doofus, You'd be the first to call 911 if some "undesirable" knocked you off your bike and smacked some sense into you. Let the guy get some coffee. Go sign up for a daily NYPD exam so you too can park in a bike lane to get coffee in the morning. Franny Wentzel: 9th Apr 2009 - 04:19 GMTBad Cops... Bad Cops... Whatcha gonna do? When the Bacon comes fryin' for you.. Peter: 9th Apr 2009 - 04:22 GMTok, so hes got his coffee. how do you rationalize the pointing-and-laughing?
JoeyD: 9th Apr 2009 - 05:16 GMTRecently something like this happened in Danville CA. of course because it was CA…. it was a sushi joint. The cop was on his lunch but felt he deserved a similar spot… unfortunately for the cop.. there was a trial lawyer inside eating and he filed a complaint with the city. The cop was fined and suspended Anais NIN: 9th Apr 2009 - 06:07 GMTWith all this "see something, say something" paranoia going on, I'm glad to see that there are still some of us out there who don't view cops as "heroes" or "public servants" by default because they're not, especially in NYC. Plain and simple. Respect to all the officers out there who are real, truthful, fair and represent the best of our communities, but unfortunately, you're in the minority in the NYPD. As a matter of fact, you've become so rare that the NYPD is a disgrace, and now not just merely an enemy of the "bad guys", but also an enemy of an unforgivably-high number of innocent citizens, most of which were brown-skinned. Hmm! Deb: 10th Apr 2009 - 21:44 GMTIf the police had to live in NYC like other city employees, maybe they would stop acting like an occupying army. JoeyD: 11th Apr 2009 - 02:48 GMTThe only thing in life that occurs by default.... is the cubbies baseball season Female Doe: 14th Apr 2009 - 20:26 GMTI agree there a handful of decent police officers, but for the most part they are dirty, cruel, and should be watched 24/7. I can't stand them. They are suppose protect and serve. I was stuck on the highway at night and you would not believe how cop cars just kept on going even with my hazard lights blinking. They feel they are above the law. It is sad there is really no one we can count on these days!!!!!!!!!! Don't like my comment, don't read it. This is my opinion... Magnatum: 14th Apr 2009 - 20:32 GMTThat first comment by "WTF" is a laugh. Saying that cops should be given a dispensation to break the law simply because they're the first that will come to your assistance when you're in need is the absolutely most cliche explanation I've ever heard. No logic in it. Cops are supposed to be standards, models of "the law" as well as enforcers of it, and I agree - no respect for crooked cops, even something as comparatively "minor" as that photographed above. No police officer is above the law - not a "little bit", not a "lot", not at all. Mya: 14th Apr 2009 - 20:43 GMTI love how they enforce non-existent laws (boingboing.net/2009/02/18/nypds-enforcement-of.html Davee: 14th Apr 2009 - 23:05 GMT>> No police officer is above the law - not a "little bit", not a "lot", not at all. Neither is (well, should be) the President. Good Cop 72nd NYPD: 15th Apr 2009 - 03:48 GMTSeeing this sort of thing really makes me steamed at first, like why some smartass gotta put this online for everybody to see? Then it just makes me sad, because it shouldn't happen and you know what? You're right, there is no excuse. And what steams me more is it just makes it harder for men like me just trying to put in an earnest day's work maintaining and encouraging law and order. Behavior like this does not encourage law and order. It encourages outcry just as we have here. And any Cop who causes public outcry and humiliation against his own department and his own fellow officers who have built careers on doing the right thing in their roles as Police Officers should be ASHAMED of themself. And I know for certain the 84h has seen this tonight, because I just faxed it over to them and I put it on the board in the squad room here, too. EvilGentleman: 18th Apr 2009 - 22:07 GMTGood Cop 72nd NYPD, Thank you. I hope you have a cousin on the force here in Montreal with the same common sense you have. I know most cops are good people, but nobody does anything about the bad ones, and that leads to resentment that makes the good cops' job that much harder, and even contributes to the decay of society in general. To society in general, I implore you to respect and even thank the police who do a good job of keeping our streets as safe as their budget and abilities allow. If you see a cop doing a good job, thank him or her. I am certain it will make a difference. To the law-abiding, fair and honest police, thank you. But I will thank you more if you also pressure your coworkers to be as good as yourselves. Do NOT turn a blind eye to any wrongdoings by your "brothers". If you see them commiting a wrong, tell them to their face that if you ever see them do something like that again, you will report them. And if they actually DO go ahead and repeat their bad behaviour, follow through on your threat. You gave them their chance. The rest is THEIR problem, not yours.
