These are just a few of my hurried photos. There is a far superior post with much more background information here:

Here's a great "before" photo, borrowed from that site:

I recently saw something similar about Detroit's ruins. All ruins make me prfoundly sad.

I can see them renovating this into subsidized housing; if it were in Manhattan, they already would have. (See Gouverneur Hospital, which has a similar turret—that they sadly took the conical roof off of.)

Amanda: 5th Apr 2009 - 17:15 GMT

This place looks amazing! Strangely, not scary or creepy at all. You make it look so beautiful, so quiet. Lovely.

supersoygrrrl: 5th Apr 2009 - 17:27 GMT

Oh, I will have a bad dream about it now! But, it should be a beautiful nightmare, I think.

Luke1972: 6th Apr 2009 - 11:16 GMT

Great looking spot. Slipping that nice Hubris piece in the middle of the photos was cool.

Sean: 6th Apr 2009 - 15:55 GMT

Reminds me of Danvers Sanitarium- see "session 9" also a good david caruso indie movie surprisingly (he doesn't where sunglasses). Also Syd the army man from Children of Men made an appearence. Great flick.

This building when I visited in'06 and again this past summer for a fashion shoot, has some of the most beautiful Iron work in the main building. The second more modern building is pretty blah though many rooms still have furniture strewn around and te smashed mirror lobby. Decay has taken it's toll though and I went halfway through the floor before my friend Nate helped pull me out.

These are my photos from the spring of 2006.

This medieval style building is the Frost Memorial Tower, part of the original Samuel R. Smith Infirmary, former Staten Island Hospital. This building has been nominated for landmarking in 2009 and has been denyed in 1983 and 1991- Most recently it is a failed condo development- read more at SiTreasure.com/Blog and Staten Island Advance's June 13th article about recent efforts. http://www.silive.com/news/advance/index.ssf?/base/news/124403041690070.xml&coll=1. Please be careful and report any vandalism. We are trying to preserve this building. Thank you.
