The far west border of Hunters Point borders the East River, and presents a great view of the
United Nations
You can also see Manhattan from the Lower East Side through midtown east to the Upper East Side,
reading left to right like a book
Unlike Gantry Plaza State Park
, which lies not far north of this spot, the gantry cranes and
barge offload docks here still slowly melt into the river, yet to be restored and turned into
squeaky-clean parks

You almost feel like youre in some sort of urban wilderness when viewing the Empire State Building
and the Chrysler Building through a wild, grassy hillside
Then, from the top of the hill, the entire city comes into view
A tugboat cruses downriver, slipping between U Thant Island and the Trump World Tower
and Citigroup Center
Near where the Queensboro Bridge crosses Roosevelt Island, the Renwick Smallpox Hospital

A DEP vessel is moored in the mouth of Newtown Creek just to the south, between these brownfields
and the Brooklyn Navy Yard
And Newtown Creek opens into the distance opposite the Manhattan view separating
Queens (to the north/left) and Brooklyn (to the south/right)
Just a photo so I can remember what this land looked like completely empty, before the condos swept in

#4 does it for me. I did not have the balance or gumption to make it to the end of the gantry, so I could not get this particular angle. nicely done!

also: something about this site was very pensive, and doubly as prescient. i know this post seems like a heap of sort of boring photos, but i really felt the urge to just represent this place candidly so that i can accurately remember how it looked, because before too long, its going to change drastically and look so different that no one will even remember all of this.
cartlegger, what was that you were telling me about the budweiser distributor or whatever this place is:
did you happen to get any photos of the front of it? my eyes were on the security dude, and i forgot to snap one...

The budweiser plant is about to be torn down. If you'd like to know what this little piece of landscape will be, google "Hunters Point South"... a 13-building high-rise condo project with low to median-income housing, a school, and retail space.
