I was walking on my way to school this morning and all I can see was a whole cloud of smoke and firefighters near by. When I got close enough I couldn't believe it. I haven't seen a fire that bad in years. I still can't get over it. I feel bad for the people who lost their homes. Peter: 25th Mar 2009 - 00:48 GMTfeel the threat of death Vanessa: 27th Mar 2009 - 16:47 GMTI saw the smoke from Bushwick Ave @ Madison. Hope everyone got out safely. Rosemary : 7th Apr 2009 - 01:18 GMTI recognize the building. It is 376 Palmetto Street. I spent a good portion of my childhood there. We lived on the third floor from 1963-1973. I am shocked the building was even still being occupied. It was a very old house when I lived there. When we lived there you could still see the capped off gas pipes sticking out of the wall which meant they were still using gas lamps when it was originally built. I was born in bushwick in 1957. Went to P.S. 116, JHS 111 then went to Stuyvesant HS in Manhattan. My grandparents owned a small apt building on Melrose Street near Knickerbocker Ave and I have fond memories of those early years. I can't believe what they are asking now for these tenement buildings! Comment on this article..Browsing articles by Upfromflames - [previous] :: [next] |
