Abandonment on The Hudson

- Sean Hopkins - Thursday, March 19th, 2009 : goo

[previous] :: [next]

This is for all my fellow City Noisers that enjoy a good abandoned scene. This particular setting is deep into the trail system within the Hudson Highland State Park located along route 9D running parallel to the Hudson River. If anyone knows what this was exactly, please chime in. I believe it was a farm of some sort, not sure exactly. It is quite a sight though.

Here's a map regarding further hiking info

And here's some info on the town of Cold Spring

wtf, man! nice! youve got all the spots, hahaha... add this one to the list ;)

Sean Hopkins: 19th Mar 2009 - 03:05 GMT

Hell yea, it's sick! IF you can handle the drive. It's like an hour and some change. I shot some B&W's there today too, I'll add those when I get them.

Peter: i got gas money. count me in, hahaha...

You should check out Doodletown!
And the tiny little community at the far side of Rockland Lake. Not abandoned, but just a cute little leftover of the houses that used to be there. They have their own tiny fire engine.

Sam: 19th Mar 2009 - 14:25 GMT

strangely, i think it looks sweet. it's like a movie set.

fightingforward: 19th Mar 2009 - 15:42 GMT

Nice shots dude, I love ruins. I'd love to see more.

That is really amazing. I just like how strange it looks.

Thorp: 19th Mar 2009 - 16:19 GMT

What is that structure in the first photograph? It looks uncannily like a bunker or pillbox. And I say photographs because these are clearly not digital. Me likey.

Faeriecat: 19th Mar 2009 - 17:57 GMT

love that spring house! those are so great.

also, realy nice pics. lovely bleakness to them.

The White Routine: 19th Mar 2009 - 18:06 GMT

Very cool! I love finding old, crumbling structures in the woods and imagining them in their heyday.

Wolfsilver: 19th Mar 2009 - 19:05 GMT

I want to win the lotto, buy that land, restore it and live there in the middle of nowhere.

Sierra: 19th Mar 2009 - 20:11 GMT

Could have been an abandoned cement factory. Those pillars look like the one around me.

Zeroed: 21st Mar 2009 - 05:48 GMT

this is the trail right next to breakneck mountain! haha. there's a really beautiful little waterfall right around the corner. wow, i never thought i'd see my area get posted in this community.

CartLegger: 21st Mar 2009 - 14:29 GMT

Oh gee! i thought it looked familiar. I walked this trail last Spring, but did not take the temptation of investigating this stop. Foolish I! Least i know where it is now!

Dena K: 18th Jun 2009 - 01:31 GMT

Hey, I live in the area and I was researching it haha This is the Edward J. Cornish Estate in Cold Spring, NY...its actually pretty huge and incredibly creepy. Its now owned jointly by two state parks I think, the Hudson Highland and Fahnstock (spelling?)....If you google the estate, you will find some good info on it.

Dena K: PS- Great photography :-)
