Jack Kerouac's House
[previous] :: [next]Once again, reading meters has led me to another interesting find. This house is situated right off Atlantic Avenue on 134th street and 94th ave in Richmond Hill. It was occupied by the great Jack Kerouac in the early 1950's, and it is said that he worked on three novels while living here, "The Subterraneans", "Dr.Sax", and "Maggie Cassidy". I doubt all those gates were there when ol' Jack lived there though. Apologies for the poor quality, I had to snap it with my cell phone. Unfortunately, the meters are outside so I haven't gotten to see the inside of the house, however I did speak to the current resident about this, and he claims to have some of Kerouac's typewriters up in the attic. This was sometime last year, and every month I pass the house I hope to see him again, just to see if he's willing to part with one- for a reasonable fee of course. I don't think it would be well received if I rang the doorbell. "Hi, I was just reading your meters, and I was wondering....."

I too would have inquired about a typewriter for a fee, as well, good luck if you choose to go through with it. Thanks for sharing! zagg: 4th Mar 2009 - 02:34 GMTI used to love me some Jack Kerouac. Knowing how he got in his later years to his friends affected my Comment on this article..[previous] :: [next] |
