Down on the Forest Park Railway
[previous] :: [next]On a lunch break from reading meters in Forest Hills, I hopped down to the railway with my 35mm, just for City Noise :)

Yeah, those are some fine textured shots--are they from your film camera or a digital workplace stand-in? CartLegger: 3rd Mar 2009 - 00:32 GMToh yeah, I read it now. 35mm. duh. You are getting a finer touch with light metering, for sure. Keep shooting! Incidentally, if you were to keep walking down that line to the SouthEast, you would arrive at a real rarity, NYC's last roundhouse. The trick is that its in the eastern end Jamaica railyard! Take a look: Peter: 3rd Mar 2009 - 14:42 GMTthese are some nice shots... im really loving all the actual film photos people have been posting lately. i really like the second one, with the bridge and rails going off into the distance. and as for the roundhouse, thats on my list of top ten places to explore... Sean-Michael : 3rd Mar 2009 - 20:50 GMTHey I like these shots - I go to Forest Park and to the tracks when I'm out birding. CartLegger: 4th Mar 2009 - 00:05 GMTBTW, this is a wasted access route. I mean, it could carry so much more traffic, but it only carries one train a day! most of the stations (I'll post photos of one soon) are all closed down. It would make a great MTA light rail line, if not a LIRR line---or even a friggin bike path, people! I am thankful for innovation, DOT, MTA, LIRR. But how can you let this line go to WASTE! I guess I'd better go walk it to get some damn use out of it! Sean Hopkins: 4th Mar 2009 - 00:17 GMTHaha, you're absolutely right. You know, when I was a little boy my father and I used to head down to the tracks and wait for the train. We'd put coins on the rails and after the train passed we'd try and find them, so I had this nice little crushed coin collection for a short while. I started walking down that way again with my brother and friends and couple years back, and since then I HAVE NOT SEEN THE TRAIN!! I know it's only one a day, but I've been there at all different hours, albeit the early morning. Do you have any idea when it passes through? IrvingD: 4th Mar 2009 - 22:08 GMTUnfortunately, the LIRR re-routed the trains that ran along this line to the mainline via a diversion from LIC to Hunter's Point. No wonder you've seen no more trains on the line. A real loss. They should make a central Queens subway line out of this and, while they're at it, join it to the hardly-used NY Connecting RR that forms a wonderful North-South route from Woodside to Bushwick. Takkun Monsoon: 2nd Apr 2009 - 16:54 GMT"Attention passengers, the next Orange Line train to Forest Hills is now arriving." Not the same Forest Hills, but this just reminds me of the peacefulness of abandoned urban rail lines (of which there are a few here in Boston). rudbekia: 2nd Apr 2009 - 17:57 GMTThere's nothing to see of the E line between Heath Street and Forest Hills other than the poles for the wires and the Forest Hills stop itself. The tracks were all dug up last year. Morgan: 2nd Apr 2009 - 19:00 GMTThis is my first time commenting. This is a lovely image. Reminds me of childhood times of walking along the tracks. It looks like you can step right in and take a journey :) Comment on this article..[previous] :: [next] |
