i think that every campus that built buildings during the 70s got at least one in the same style as these, heh...

Why do they all have to be so brutalist????

Oh yeah, the govt. is brutal!

all these buildings seem built for rebellion, to put down protests.

Franny, what do you have to say on this subject?

Peter: 2nd Mar 2009 - 15:22 GMT

theyre built to resemble prisons.

Yarbles! Bolshey great yarblockos and a tolchock in the gulliver to any veck or devotchka who doesn't pay their proper respects to these glorious municipal flat-blocks!

little ukraine: 2nd Mar 2009 - 17:32 GMT

hope you all like these. i was planning to just do a "Campus Brutalism" series focusing on the SUNY campuses, but I decided not to limit myself...
these buildings are suprisingly difficult to photograph. they're so big.

CE: Franny: That was beautiful.

...only structure missing is the Bridge to Nowhere!!

done: 1st Sep 2011 - 07:44 GMT

the bridge to no where is not there anymore, wish it was, there are photographs of it in the meliville library on the second floor

btw i just love brutalist architecture, even if it is designed as a prison, the eery nostalgic feeling from the abstract, unusual features make me feel as if i was born in the 50's and spent my youth in the 70's, even though i just graduated from stony brook

anon (pool-74-98-181-83.nrflva.fios.verizon.net): 17th Oct 2012 - 21:40 GMT

I was a grad student there in '91, though my haunt was the Humanities building (English/Creative Writing). Sorry to learn that the Bridge to Nowhere is no more. For those of us with a poetic bent, that was also the Bridge to Anywhere...
