Looks like a beautiful day for some great pix, thanks

i'm enjoying your photos. And I dunno of anyone has already said this, but, ville being french for 'town', Townsville = Townstown. heh.

Mime: 23rd Feb 2009 - 11:18 GMT

Jamie: actually, no one has mentioned that. Although, I have often thought of it as Villaville, Villatown or some other cheesy gated-community-sounding name.
Also (thankfully) there has been no mention of Powerpuff Girls either...*cough* (I am not tagging that :D.)

Townsville was actually named after Robert Towns who provided finances for the new settlement at the site of . This website offers a brief chronology on the early life of Townsville:
www.townsville.qld.gov.au/townsville/heritage/heritage_chronology
It also includes some photos of historic sites, some of which still stand, such as the Victoria Bridge and the chimney at the old meatworks.

Hm, ideas. Cheers for your support.
