Watching Queen
[previous] :: [next]
Here is the queen watching from a window in east London. Today is the wedding of her son and heir to the throne, Charles. It would appear she is not attending the wedding because of 'royal protocol' - because his bride is a divorcee. Seems to me, say you were the queen, whatever that means, surely you would do what the fuck you want? Perhaps she is. I think she is at home with the TV on eating a ton of Rolos with the telly on, and she's cussing it, and them, in the cockney accent she is reputed to be very good at...
This article has been viewed 3401 times in the last 5 years elaine: 9th Apr 2005 - 14:53 GMTyeah, it has clogged up our TV schedules a little, but not too bad, it's low key for a royal thing Jamie: 9th Apr 2005 - 15:41 GMTRe: elaine I steer clear of the mainstream media these days, it's getting mind-numbingly tabloid. I wonder does anyone have the figures correlating the viewing figures of charles and camilla vs ken and diedre? lol elaine: 9th Apr 2005 - 21:43 GMTProbably Ken and Dreardrie are more 'real'. Turns out the queen did go to Chas and Camilla's event, for what it was worth. Shockingly dull. hasslehoff: 12th Apr 2005 - 13:36 GMTit was with much amusement that i studied the generaly apathy on the day of "The Big Wedding" Nobody gave a rats ass; even old people. The sort of people you would generally expect to hold a degree of interest in such proceedings. They were not at all interested. There has been a paradigm shift in British society since Charles' previous wedding. The days of the monarchy seem marked. Sure, they hold land and money and therefore power, but what is power without a shred of respect? elaine: 12th Apr 2005 - 14:19 GMTyeah, it's like what was counterculture is now the mainstream. Could 'Anarchy in the UK' get any kind of a banning nowadays? Culture accommodates everything, even a safety pin in the queen's nose. Now you can even get punk baby clothes. hasslehoff: 12th Apr 2005 - 14:23 GMTthere is of course the contingent opposed to the americanisation of the uk. it is inevitable however. it's not so much americanisation as it is globalisation. we had our empire, it's someone elses turn now. if americanisation dislodges this antiquated order of things from our shores, surely whatever else it may bring, it can only be construed ultimately as a good thing. FTQ Peter: 12th Apr 2005 - 14:38 GMTits almost a shame that "americanization" has become synonymous with "commercialization". some say FTQ, I say "fuck the corporations!" hasslehoff: 12th Apr 2005 - 14:45 GMTIf you had to choose betwwen being screwed over by large multinational corporations, who it could be argued have achieved their status legitimately and under thier own steam, or by a self elected rabble of in-breeding slack-jawed dimwits, which would you choose? To avoid inevitable flaming. I am British and therefore I can say what I like about the royals. They are defunct. We have a democratically (ahem) elected government. What on earth do we need these people for. Apart from tourism obviously. Perhaps they could be placed in some kind of zoo where they could breed with each other and continue to smear thier faces with the blood of countless innocent wild animals. They could do this without bothering the normal people. Peter: 12th Apr 2005 - 14:57 GMTgood point, but as an american, i can assure you that, although perhaps better than the current situation, "americanization" has little to offer in the way of raising the quality of life, heh... hasslehoff: 12th Apr 2005 - 15:02 GMTi don't doubt that for one minute peter. with gun-crime on an exponential course, our police have started shooting people. this trend is both alarming and reassuring in equal measure. elaine : 13th Apr 2005 - 17:20 GMTThey are kind of in a zoo, though not in exactly the same way as 'celebrities' who seem to have become the people version of starbucks etc. Comment on this article..[previous] :: [next] |
