Former New York City Fire Patrol Houses

A few years back I decided to go out and photograph the former locations of the New York Fire Patrol past and present. On 15 October 2006 the NY Fire Patrol was disbanded. At one point the Patrol had 7 companies and 3 Salvage Corp units. I was driven to work on this project as tribute to Keith Roma who was a member of the patrol who lost his life on September 11, 2001 during opperations at the World Trade Center. The Patrols primary duty during its existence was to protect property but when saving lives came into the picture these brave men stepped up to the plate and sometimes paid with their lives. More information on the patrol and its history can be found at www.fpny123.net or on Wikipedia.

Like I said in my e-mail to you great job Anthony. It's amazing when you think about it half the people in the city never even herd of a Fire Patrol. I think they should all be back in service.

John Maloney: Great research.

you got something wrong, bro. Fire patrol#1, not patrol #3, was on 240 w.30th st, i know i worked there, all that was left at that time was #3, in brooklyn, on dean st, #2 on w. 3rd, and #1 on w. 30th st. otherwise a very good job

ntatap: Tommy is right. Sorry about the mix-up.

Sorry this comes so LATE!!! At present time, I am the Chaplain for the Oceanside Fire Department on Long Island. My Uncle, Sgt. Michael G. McGee was an honored member of the Fire Patrol 1 located at 240 West 30th Street. On February 14th, 1958, he along with his five fellow brothers, gave their life at the Wooster Street fire. My family was close friends with the Divine Family, both Jim and Joe knew our family well. I was about 13 when he gave his life in the line of duty. Many times, he would take me to the house, and I would spend the day speaking with the "guys" learning about the trucks, and equipment. Years later, when given my call numbers...240 was given as my number. To this day, I think he guides me in my work. Badge 444 was his number. I wonder to this day, what happen to his seared helmet, and the place that was erected in thier honor. God love you men, only you and your chaplains know how God calls to to a great vocation in this life. May you know you are not forgotten.

Great post!!! I have an interest in Fire Patrols. What a shame that the first and last Fire Patrol is now for the history books. My grandfather was a Captain on the Chicago Fire Patrol, and being a firefighter myself, it interested me so much that I decided to write a book on the subject. Please feel free to check out my website:

thank you for keeping Keith in your heart, fyi,we are trying to have the insurance industry fund the patrol once again. We have 2 bills pending in the ny state legislature,a09046 and senate6090,if passed it would force the ins.industry to fund the Patrol.please write e-mail to breslin@senate.state.ny.us and let him know,he is a state senator trying to kill the state charter they ran under, tell him you support the patrol.

AJ Brofman: Former patrol#2 member #347. Great article.
