Milwaukee was, for many years, a city whose identity was rooted in the brewing of beer. Hence, you may hear it referred to (even now) as 'Brew City'. The Pabst brewery in town closed its doors years ago after nearly a century of activity. Today, its grain elevators, fermentation tanks, warehouses, and cream-city brick offices quietly await their rebirth as a high-end shopping center and condo complex. The only remnant of prouder days is a pipeline stretching over a street, bearing a stout, boldface 'Pabst' logo. On a beach five miles south of this, I found this can that washed up from a bygone era. Tin can with a pop-top... a piece of Americana with a local spin.
