An unused elevated layup (?) over a bus layup near Broadway Junction in East New York, Brooklyn... This article has been viewed 8147 times in the last 4 years dubdoc: 9th Jan 2009 - 12:51 GMTThis would have made a pretty fat black and white photograph. There's great contrast scattered throughout it. Peter: 9th Jan 2009 - 14:12 GMTfunny you would mention it... it doesnt quite look the same in digital though :/
Peter: 13th Jan 2009 - 04:33 GMTthe ridgies are a dying breed these days. theyre going the way of the redbird... only seen occasionally limping along the A line. ding dong... Peter Puleo: 29th Mar 2009 - 04:31 GMTHardly! Broadway Junction was once called Manhattan Junction, the station as we know opened in 1913. All those steel girders you see are the remnants of the old Fulton St and Pitkin Ave Els. Until 1918 the present (J) line ran to Broadway Junction and then turned south to run on the Canarsie Line to Canarsie. The Jamaica extension opened in 1918. The Canarsie Line ran to Atlantic Ave and then turned onto either the Fulton St El via Brooklyn Bridge or the Broadway (J) El via Williamsburg Bridge. This remained in effect even after the tunnel connecting it to the 14st subway opened in 1928. Atlantic Ave on the (L) once had four platforms until 2004. The Fulton St El ran down Brooklyns Fulton St until Broadway Junction then turned on the Canarsie Line to Atlantic Ave where it would either head to Canarsie or run to Lefferts. If going to Lefferts it would turn east after Atlantic Ave onto Pitkin Ave and run down Pitkin Ave to Hemlock St where it would turn north to Liberty Ave and then turn east again to Lefferts Blvd. The (A) El over Liberty Ave to Lefferts is the only in service remnant of the Fulton/Pitkin El. rey : 25th Jun 2009 - 02:41 GMTyou know your shit, what are you a hundred and five. but good to know being from bk.
