Awesome picture Peter. That are some old voting machines though...maybe better that way instead of a computer program that can be hacked and cracked.

Peter: 9th Nov 2008 - 03:02 GMT

heh, these are the only voting machines ive ever used in nyc, for every election since 96, the first i could vote in. these are also the same type of machines pictured in the original post above. after you toggle your votes, you crank this huge lever to finalize your vote. about half the times ive voted, my lever has hung up or jammed. i dont blame the machinery, though, as much as i do my excitement of repeatedly voting against bush and finally doing my part for 's win...

id be curious to know the stats, but id imagine that in dense urban areas, so many machines are required that its not practical to update them often, but i dunno. where i grew up down south, you stepped up to a table and punched your vote into an old ibm-style punchcard with a stylus so that a computer could read it.

regardless, just about any "technology" is susceptible to hacking, old or new, and frankly, theres no perfectly practical way to do a perfectly secure election, that i can think of, but oh well... perhaps ill worry about it more when my vote isnt seemingly reflected by 99% of my fellow new yorkers already anyway, heh...

i really hope that years from now i can look back at posts like this and things will have turned out as well as i hoped for, at this very moment.

its not about having high expectations. just the fact that he made it in there makes me happy. you can only realistically expect so much considering how f'd everything is right now
