A Sign of Past Times?
[previous] :: [next]
Found this sign wilting in the sun on Shore Parkway east between Rockaway Parkway and Pennsylvania Ave. I guess abandoned cars use to be an issue out in these parts... Are there still lots of abandoned cars rotting in the city? Whaddya say, citynoisers? Got some evidence? This article has been viewed 1752 times in the last 8 months Peter: 11th Jul 2008 - 04:16 GMTive counted about 7 in my neighborhood. a new, utterly smashed-up honda appeared in the lot at the corner of central and hart today; ill carry my camera in the morning and get a shot of it as evidence. in the 90s, when i was in washington heights and up at the harlem river every morning, we'd see abandoned cars all the time. once, i spotted a red chevy blazer that had been pushed/rolled mostly into the river. you could still see its headlights on below the surface of the water. jack: 11th Jul 2008 - 15:01 GMTcan you top this, i was up by harlem in the 60's along east river drive, (loved the cool jazz played at some of the local bars in harlem) and spotted a car, with the engine hood off and some guys are having a bbq in january in the engines air filter on the top of the engine. it was an earie sight in the cold and barren landscape under old winter trees. adam: 11th Jul 2008 - 16:11 GMTi have vivid memories of driving on the cross bronx with my family in the 80s and seeing cars piled up on the sides of the road. could just be youthful interpretation of a lesser memory though POWcityblog: 11th Jul 2008 - 22:16 GMTIn Toronto the authorities are pretty quick to get rid of abandoned cars. They never last more than a day or so. Having said that there is a '89 or '90 black Honda Civic hatchback with a disability parking tag on the dashboard rotting on my street. It has been there long enough to get four flat tires and a swastika scratched into the roof. It is ugly but the other day a beautiful long haired calico cat was reclining in the shade under the rear bumper which more than justifies its presence. Peter: 11th Jul 2008 - 23:39 GMThere's the one i mentioned above:
looks like they even tore the registration off of the windshield, heh... CartLegger: 16th Jul 2008 - 11:44 GMT
This was probably abandoned after being stolen, found on the swampy edge of Howard Beach. Comment on this article..[previous] :: [next] |
