Don River Flood

- Michelle - Tuesday, June 24th, 2008 : goo

After one of many torrential rain storms these past few weeks, the Don River flooded over its banks, washing out Bayview and a number of surrounding areas.

The 5:30 pm GO Train ploughs north along a flooded track line.

The water levels must have risen because cars are now no longer able to drive through the water without getting swamped.

That tow truck pulled about 5 cars out of the water within a span of an hour.

Homeless folks live along there . I wonder if anyone thought to see if they were ok ?

Wow I thought the new widening of the rail bridge down by Queen would have alleviated this. Pretty interesting.

These are very valuable photos. I am a Hydrometric Surveys Technologist with Water Survey of Canada (part of Environment Canada). We have a water level monitoring gauge a few hundred feet below the Pottery Road bridge along the path heading south. In measuring water level and flow (discharge) we develop rating curves that also project to peak flows, often estimated. These photos will be used to re-evaluate the stage (water-level) discharge relationship as flooding occurs extensively on the right bank of the Don River. This is very important in engineering work. We work very closely with the Toronto Region Conservation Authority and they too will be very interested.

Keep up the good work and thanks again.

Hi Marinus,

Thanks for the feedback. I'm glad my photos can be of use.

Cheers,
