An Epidemic of Diphtheria

- zagg - Sunday, June 15th, 2008 : goo

I didn't think of posting these photographs until I saw upfromflames post 'Closed (by Order of The....'.

The below is from when my cousin and I did 'ghost towns of Middlesex County' tour (aka driving around where she was raised).

The sign says:
"WARNING
DIPHTHERIA
Epidemic

An epidemic of DIPHTHERIA is
running rampant through our
townships.

Many children have died. Don't
risk your family.

If you or yours get sore throat,
?, swollen glands, you may
be at risk

Stay away from others.

Call a doctor

Doctor East, Napier, Canada West."

How old is the sign? Can't quite pin that one down - but Ontario hasn't been refered as Canada West in somewhere around FOREVER ago.

The old Napier general store, like stepping back in time minus the very, very few renovations.

Kevin_in_the_Uk: 16th Jun 2008 - 21:43 GMT

Same here, give us the ghost towns please.

Peter: 17th Jun 2008 - 13:39 GMT

thirded on the "ghost town" photos. i think thats a quorum, zagg.

on another note, i went to read the wiki on , out of curiosity... and i literally shuddered when i got to the part about "suffocating due to the membrane sheath that grows over and obstructs airways"...

zagg: 20th Jun 2008 - 20:56 GMT

Let me dig some more up for you kids then! (they're a bit lacking but sure, more Napier for for all.

Oh diptheria - such good times!
