the earliest i remember is Staten Island in 1948, it was country then, i was 6, but there is a story i personally know is true, because i made it up so there, and it goes that Washington was naming Brooklyn and Manhattan and the recorder was seated and without looking up as they viewed where the Verazano Bridge is now, he said to George, is that an island over there and George looks and say's is that an island? and the recorder writes down Staten Island. Weired isn't it!
