I lived on Menahan more or less 20 years ago and it looked the same. I haven't lived in Brooklyn for 10 years now. Gracias for the memories of the neighborhood and shopping with my mom.

Good job, Peter

I live right on Menahan Street this store is not there anymore it has been replaced with a new 99 cent store. I'm happy the store in the picture is gone it had this man who would yell from 9 in the morning till closing time "JEANS FOR 5 DOLLARS!". I could hear him in my apartment it was awful!

Does anyone remember helly and steven from Menahan

mondrian13@aol.com: 9th Mar 2009 - 17:03 GMT

I lived at 49 Menahan and attended PS 75 in the 30's. The neighbor hood was 'family' and we all knew each other very well. Summers in the evening were sat on the 'Stoop'. I remember Skillman and Porter families. There was a saloon somewhere to the left of 49 and some wild goings on. I forgot the name of the candy store owner but he did chase us a lot. My family name was Warnke.

I also remember another famly name: Kump. The kid I knew was Rudy Kump. Anyone know these people?

sorry, I am new at the computer game, forgot to include my email address. My name at the time of the Menahan childhood ( circa 1930-1938 ) was Minni Warnke.

do you know anyone who would like to rent an apt on Menahan

Bob Drews: 23rd Nov 2010 - 17:46 GMT

I used to live right there in Myrtle Ave and Menahan St. 1475 Myrtle Ave. My parents moved us out to Ozone Park in 1971. I too have lots of great memories there. Anypne remember the butcher shop right on that corner? Anyone remember the D'Amico brothers? A big guy named Frank we all called "Turkey"? My friend Sal and I had German Shepherds we always walked around the heighborhood. Hey... remember the Christmas Tree lot every Christmas on the Myrtle and Irving Ave lot?? My first Job was there.

Email me if you do... BobDrews@Bellsouth.net

DOES ANYONE REMEBER PS 75, CORNER OF MENAHAN ST AND EVERGREEN AVE? I WENT THERE FOR THE ELEMENTARY GRADES. THEY HAD RED, WHITE AND BLUE FLAGS FOR GET GOING, THEN HURRY AND FINALLY, YOU ARE IN TROUBLE NOW.... YOU ARE LATE. THE DIFFERENT COLORED FLAGS WERE DISPLAYED FROM THE HIGHEST PART OF THE BUILDING FOR THE KIDS TO SEE. I ATTENDED EARLY 1930'S, THE WORST OF THE DEPRESSION. WE HAD FREE LUNCHES, USUALLY TOMATO SOUP, CREAM CHEESE ON WHOLE WHEAT AND MILK. I DID NOT KNOW WE WERE POOR. GOOD SCHOOL AND THERE WERE GOOD FAMILIES ON THE STREET....JOHN PORTER, MARIAN SKILLMAN AND RUDY KUMP ARE NAME UI RECALL. JACKIE GLEASON LIVED ON HIMROD, I THINK BACK TO BACK WITH MENAHAN. THIS WAS MANY YEARS AGO.....I AM NOW 88 YEARS OLD. WOULD LOVE TO HEAR FROM ANY OF YOU THAT ARE STILL OUT THERE. AND I RECEIVED WPA ( ? )
DRESSES. THEN I BEGAN TO WONDER. MINNI SCOTT, MONDRIAN13@AOL.COM

Yes I remember PS75. It was a great school. I lived at 93 Menahan St. between Central and Evergreen until we moved to California in 1971. My aunt and uncle lived closer to your end at 58 Menahan Street. What years did you live there?
