CE: 17th May 2008 - 17:27 GMTThe first picture is why I love vernacular architecture so much, you can get such a feeling of place from it. When I first looked at the first picture, I forgot to look at the city and assumed it was New York but thought it couldn't possibly be due to the architecture (despite the fact that New York is a city I have never visited). When I realised it was Philadelphia (a city I have visited but not this part) it made sense. It's a shame that contemporary architecture doesn't give such a sense of place. A new neighbourhood or piece of urban infill often looks the same in Montreal as it could in Baltimore or San Francisco. zagg: 22nd May 2008 - 00:37 GMTWe could have crossed paths - I was in Philadelphia all last week and stayed a block away from Baltimore. I remember the Green / Blue arch away from our walks. Comment on this article..[previous] :: [next] |
