Brooklyn Motorcycle History

I am searching for information, photos and leads in my research on motorcycling history in Brooklyn. Brooklyn was the mecca for motorcycling in the early 1900's, and the time frame I'm interested in is 1900 through 1920. There were many motorcycle shops on Ave and Brooklyn is where the FAM (Federation of American Motorcyclists) was founded in 1903.

Can anyone out there can help?

I am looking for early photograph's, letters, magazines, brochures, literature, anything relating to motorcycles, race trophies, medals, clothes, etc. Also looking for anything relating to the Motordrome.

though the content of this sort of post isnt typically what we have on this blog, im going to leave it, as it sounds interesting, and the photo is nice.

"cycles past", i urge you, though, to make this a two-way street, and share more of your findings (or information/photos) you already have with us here. making an interesting post with lots of photos and information will probably do more to attract interested parties that have something to offer than a simple request for information from them...

thanks for posting, though! i, for one, would like to see/know more about the oldschool scene, myself...

you've probably already checked the new york times archives (free access with signup), but if not it has about 70 hits for "federation of american motorcyclists", with lots of articles from that time period.

Ramon Bautista is technically the superintendant for my building; in actuality, he's the super for most of the buildings on my block. Perhaps attracted by the basic capitalist drive of his scheme, he's managed to hire himself off for most...
