I passed this -looking oldskool machine in ... it's price still read 55 cents and it looked like it hadn't dispensed a soda in at least a decade...

okay but what about the phone ins't that old school also?

Peter: 27th Mar 2008 - 17:42 GMT

i suppose it is. my bad for not properly labeling each and every element of the photo. though i must admit, i see many of those sorts of around... the , not so much...

Jason: 28th Mar 2008 - 21:34 GMT

i've lived in seattle since '92, and - to my knowledge - that coke machine has been there since then.

question: did you try to buy a can?

Peter: 28th Mar 2008 - 22:50 GMT

any specifics on where its located? im not terribly familiar with , as this was my first trip there, but yeah... the machine was long-since dead... not plugged in, totally non-operational. just a lump of steel waiting to get photographed and put on the internet, hahaha... i wouldnt be surprised if that hadnt vended a coke since the early 90s... even the old soda logos on the push-buttons looked almost antiquated...

CE: Why is a Coke machine selling Pepsi?

Lefty: 2nd Apr 2008 - 16:49 GMT

E John btwn Broadway and 10th. Just past the Ethiopian restaurant.

POWcityblog: 2nd Apr 2008 - 18:23 GMT

That machine is secured pretty well for something abandoned - coupla padlocks and a bracket. It probably is in use & gets hydro from the same line as the phone.

Picturian: Hydro?

POWcityblog: 3rd Apr 2008 - 04:59 GMT

Hydroelectricity - a short form from the 19th century. I probably shouldn't use it.

Also, there isn't much graff on the coke machine, less than you'd find on something truly abandoned. Someone is cleaning that machine.

emeleef: 3rd Apr 2008 - 16:26 GMT

Hey, I'm sitting here in the UK, so it's a bit out of my zone so will someone PLEASE try and buy a coke from that thing!!!!

how_rude: 9th Jun 2008 - 05:13 GMT

oh, it still works but what type/flavor of soda you'll get is random which makes it all that more exciting.

jessie : 10th Jun 2008 - 04:35 GMT

If this is the one off Broadway there is also a "mystery button" haha

Ives: still works, i see it dispense sodas all the time

I remember once passing a Coke machine where whoever filled it forgot to lock it shut. Free sodies for everyone.

mixolydian: 24th Oct 2009 - 06:30 GMT

about 75% of payphones have disappeared in the last 5 yrs, due to cellphones. the electronics inside date to the very late 80s to late 90s, and most don't need "hydro" anymore (except for the light); the phone line voltage recharges a small battery. there was one company that made payphones with a "cell" transceiver, but for most, the possibility of a return on investment in new equipment was already gone.

ringwar: 20th Jan 2010 - 21:47 GMT

Thats a classic machine. I would stop with my truck and torches. STOLEN. Restored! In my basement! But I don't live in Washington anymore.

SeattleBen: 9th Aug 2012 - 17:28 GMT

It works. There is a mystery button. Rumor is you can get condoms and cigarettes out of it randomly. It is now $0.75.

This is a common sight in Metro Manila. Although the streets are teeming with Public Utility Jeepneys, creating congestion from sun-up to way past sun-down, there seems to be not enough vehicles to carry everyone safely. This is the Public...
