Poverty the Mother of All Crimes

- Saiyed Fauzan Ali - Sunday, March 9th, 2008 : goo

What is poverty?

Definition: Poverty, scarcity or poorness is the lack of income source to buy food. In some cases it is not only the state of having income that is below the line of poverty but it is also the inability to sustain a specified level of well being.

How is it connected to crimes?

It is in fact that most of the crimes that occur are due to poverty, except for countries where the minimum necessities of life are met. No matter how much moral the person is, if the poverty threatens his or her life then he/she is likely to indulge into such criminal acts and could try to attack the prevailing social structure. Some times honest people who hate corruption from depth of their beings fail to keep their mental balance and due to the pressure of poverty and resort to crimes just to maintain their existence. In such circumstances the judge only looks at the crime committed instead of finding out the cause that lead the committer to such an act. What happens is the person is sent to jail and is labeled as a criminal and after his release he is further humiliated by the society and therefore is forced to become a habitual thief.

Is there any solution?

My answer, yes there is. The solution to all these antisocial activities is in the creation of a sound economic and social structure. The person who is indulged to crimes and is labeled as a criminal by the society might be a genius if he had been brought up in a healthy environment. The child who is despised as a thief and is ill-treated by the society might have been an honest and respected man if he had received sympathy by the society in the early part of his life. Therefore I contend that those unfortunates who carry a burden of sins are not responsible for their acts. In my opinion their sins are less or no greater then the sins of the selfish and mean-minded people who call them selves honest.

It is a duty of the government to help those unfortunate ones who cannot maintain a balanced life by providing them with jobs so they could earn an income to reach that specific level of well-being and then it is the job of the society to treat them with kindness and provide them sympathy.

I would end my topic by saying that the government should play an important role by putting an end to poverty so to make a peace full, economical and social environment.

this speach has been spoken since biblical times, there will never be an end to poverty, crime is committed by people from all walks of life, even the wealthy, (eg: evil eliot the govenor) poverty does help with more than it's share of criminals, greed, advarice, predjudice, lust and a simple desire to get it without legitimately working for it, plain old greed.

A good article, but it should be mention that how people thought that to overcome poverty and too take revenge from society they should go in the line of crime, and what are the other diffculties they face when they red handedly caught doing crimes???

Its a good article, but from the study of different societies, i know that the crime is not only the profession of poor.but the elite groups members, who have a lot of money they also committed crime.such as WHITE COLLAR CRIMES, politican, police officers etc.they are not among the line of poors. There social and economic classes are better then poor.
So what you think about that?Is the cause is only social or economical?

The problem with government programs is that for every dollar spent for good two more are wasted.

The rate of the poverty can be minimized if our ruler wants because if they take their hands-off the assests of country for their personal advantages and if they maintain the currency rate constant. Then, as a result poverty-rate reduces and so far social crimes decreases.

Folks, please admit that mentality of some individuals is just outdated. Most progressive of them think in terms of the Medieval Age at best ;-) Unfortunately our globalized technology and information-driven civilization left them behind.

Could the civilization keep them updated all this time? Yes!
Should the civilization keep them updated in the future? Yes!
Can we update them now? Think again ;-) There is no monochrome answer for it. Something is doable; something is just beyond our current abilities. Think of the living things….

Organisms are made of cells. Each cell has its own lifetime. Old cells die – new cells reproduce. Body takes care of getting dead cells out. Sometimes body discharges living but unnecessary cells. Sometimes another body helps doing with means of medicine or surgery.

Our civilization as an organism is kind of sick or not developed yet or both. It full of cancer cells, hungry, polluted and has no goal. Sounds like a lot of stuff to do?

What to start with? Love! Love your civilization, heal it, and nurture it. Today’s situations require major surgery or miracle. Recent surgery attempts including World War I discovered that we are not the best surgeons in the universe and not ready to heal ourselves surgically. Especially with an ax and no anesthesia ;-) Recent medication attempts (social programs, humanitarian aid, etc.) proved to increase cancer. Miracle?

Miracles happen when organism’s mentality is brave and driven by positive thoughts. Thoughts are equivalent to the social values. They are powerful and proven to shape society for many thousand years. But miracle should happen as soon as possible or no one will survive to make it ;-) It means that destructive ideas and people that carry them should be gracefully discharged same way we rub our skin, cut nails and hair or brush teeth. Whoever is in danger should be helped; whoever cannot be fixed nicely should leave this world. The key points that distinguish this process from past bloody mistakes are love, globalization and self-coordination. Doing something with love is the source of humanity we recently all so obsessed with. Globalization assures wrong people will not have place to hide. Self-coordination assures that the control is in many of your hands, not the few corrupted government officials who used to put their own goals higher that the goals of civilization they elected to serve to.

Note of compassion to our corrupted officials: obtaining and retaining the position obligates to pay back to sponsors, centralized management overhead tends to take all the resources and social circle requires matching up peers’ lifestyle. They exchange the authority and coordinate us; we exchange the ideas and coordinate ourselves. With the power of democracy we will make elected officials to cooperate in healing.
