Peter, I sent our friends in kingston a message to let them know how shocked I was to see this. We will see if they have the guts to respond.

native americans believe that trees are special, there is a spirit for all life on our planet, God made trees and we kill them, let us forgive the people that did this and pray that they find a way to place signs without nailing to the tree, the easy way out is usually the most costly.

i love trees as much (or more than) the next guy, but are you all serious?!?! these trees are fine... chillax, everybody.

jeeff: it's the arboreal equivalent of body piercing.

Hi A,

Can you please let me know where this new installation took place? We have been removing signs from many of the trees in the downtown Kingston area for a while. And yes there are still many more to remove. The difficult decision is what is the most damaging to the tree: the sign on the tree or when we have to dig into the roots of the tree to install a
post for the sign?

We can move the sign away from the tree but in some locations it is very difficult to find a location with driveways, underground utilities and the signs have to a certain distance apart to be enforceable etc...

Please give me a call and we can discuss.

Thanks

Chris

a: 24th Nov 2007 - 02:22 GMT

Also- if anyone knows the exact locations of any of these, you should email them, per my last comment, to CSleeth@cityofkingston.ca

THANKS FOR YOUR SOLIDARITY.

steelisreal: 24th Nov 2007 - 03:04 GMT

Well it seems like they are already working on the problem. Maybe having this exposed on a site such as citynoise will make them move a little faster.

Brian Jacobs: 9th Sep 2008 - 22:24 GMT

Well, perhaps a compromise would be to attach signs to trees using an expanding metal collar with a rubber inner sleeve to protect the tree and allow the tree to grow without the collar restricting tree girth growth.....

trewken: 14th Oct 2008 - 15:53 GMT

they shouldnt do that. it will kill the tree eventually
