We All Enjoy the Colors of Autumn Leaves

We all love the colors of the leaves at this time of year. I was thinking that this year is actually one of the prettiest I can remember over the last decade. The weather this week is what I like to call "Fall Perfect". Chilly a bit in the morning and in the 70's by afternoon. There is nothing like a crisp morning with vibrant leaves. Dew drops on the leaves sparkle as the sun rises. As the days get cooler and frost is in the air, and the trees and shrubs put on an autumn show in all shades of red, yellow, purple, and brown it means a lot more to me than just an increase in tourism in the months to come. It means that it is time to reflect on the last year. Autumn is the time to put the past to rest an to prepare yourself for the long winter months. And in Utah that winter can be longer some years than we like it to be. Although I know last year the ski resorts loved it -- so it is a cycle that we need. Just like with life. So come and enjoy the leaves around your neck of the woods and take some time for reflection and contemplate the new year approaching.

great barbara, nice writing, it is a beautiful time of year, in brooklyn in the 40's and 50's the old men in the neighborhood would gather up leaves in piles in the streets and burn them and the smell was spicy in the chilled air, i loved jumping into piles of leaves but my dad got upset when i left it all a mess, i wrote a poem about that and posted it some time ago, coming home from school was great walking into the house and my mom baking a pie, my family would bring in boxes of tomatoes and stew them and make bottled tomato sauce for the entire winter, and my grandpa would make his wine and i helped clean out the barrels, people i knew were still alive and smiling and enjoying the chestnut tree's colors and the fuzzy balls that fell, and playing touch football in the street until twilight time, my friends, my dog, my home, my childhood, all helped me to bring those moments into the future for my children as they grew up and now they are making those moments special for their children, my grandchildren, yes, your right, we should take some time to just enjoy the rushing days, to watch the moment pass by us, like the song, try to remember, i think i'll go upstairs and put some chestnuts on the fire and make a cup of tea and stand on my porch and watch the twilight arrive, it's coming you know, and it will be here very soon.
