not to be cynical here, but aren't there public parks in montreal that have basketball hoops in them? isn't this basically the same thing?

Not where I live. If you look at some of my past posts, you will find that my neighbourhood is pretty barren and devoid of people or amenities (our only park [other than the canal] is an old church foundation with some benches and trees.

oh i see. i had figured that it was a more residential part of town. especially considering the (apparently) busy street and the nice lawn and trees seen in the background of this photo.
