Welcome to Crack Lane!

I was walking with some friends on in the district of Montreal's West End, when I spotted an alleyway running south from Tupper, between Seymour and Fort streets.

There were some friendly people on the balconies along there, who have a sense of humour about the crack dealers who take the area over at night. They painted the above messages, and had just been given tickets by the cops for defacing an abandoned building. They were more than proud to show me their hastily-dabbed statements.

now that's something you won't see in the michelin tour guide of montreal

where's the fum, i see fe fi fo but no fum, how the hell could they leave out fum, there should be no fe fi fo if there is no fum, it's like abbott without costello, martin without lewis, kukla, fran and no ollie, shizen, was est los, mox nix, forgetaboutit, so when a druggie breaks your car's window for your things inside so he can buy some crack, go to the alley and make your complaint or better still get a shot gun and blow these bastards away, vigilanty style, or do the best thing call the cops and if they do nothing get a reporter to do a story on police corruption because the police are getting something out of this. nice pictures.

you know, i always past by in this area at night, but never see anything going down, it would be nice to see some police/crack dealer confrontation, it would make for some great pictures... and perhaps a gun shot to the chest or so... details.

I have a pic of the guys who were in the process of painting with a basic little can of white model paint and a paintbrush. They proudly posed for me, but since I do not recall telling them that I might post these pics online, I have opted to not post that pic. After all, since they hang around the same parts of downtown that I do, I am sure I will be bumping into them again in the future, so best to keep things on good terms.

Cinic, as far as the shots of cops in action go, if you can give me an SLR with a good self-stabilizing zoom lens, I'll see what I can do. But no way am I shooting pics of cops getting rough from close up. All that will earn me is a busted camera and a night in the hoosegow.

I went by again. They buffed it already. Pretty damned fast for an abandoned building fronting a shabby alleyway. Guess the "NO COPS" message had to be silenced quickly.

Although I recall "KILL KOPS" was done by roller a couple blocks away on the top edge of the former Wendy's building on Lambert-Closse facing the Forum, and it stayed there for years before finally being buffed last year.

Graffiti is just wrong especially on the side of someones home, here in Rothesay, New Brunswick you'd be arrested if caught putting graffiti on a building or home.
I did notice alot of graffiti when I was in Montreal last year., even on the buses and metros.
It's a dammed shame, I've always found Montreal a beautiful city whenever I was there.
