i just noticed the "lays" truck reflected in the window. nice...

procyon: 19th Jul 2007 - 00:35 GMT

what a terrific sign! i wonder if it's as old as it looks.

upfromflames: yes, it is.

jack: 19th Jul 2007 - 14:23 GMT

typical 50's signage, almost like the sign in the movie, 'that thing you do', good grief, knickerbocker ave, haven't been there since 64.

CartLegger: 19th Jul 2007 - 21:31 GMT

The store was started by the father of the current owner, so that would be about right--early 1950's.

Neidine: 17th Dec 2007 - 03:17 GMT

Yes this place has been there forever. It is right across from Tony's Pizza and what was once known as Scaturro's supermarket.

George: I just removed the sign yesterday

George: Sign is now scrap metal. bye

George: sorry to see your shop go. but what the hell were you thinking?

you could have sold that thing--iconic image that it is--and made better money for your family. And not destroyed a work of great style and beauty...something that might have some greater meaning. Is this not a family shop?

but anyway, now its scrap.

anon: you are a man of little vision, George.

anon: a sad, little, man
