HPD? Who’s that?

No, Bushwick watchers, that’s no simple tag to be found on Bushwick Ave between Melrose and Noll Streets.

That is the mark of the Dept. of Housing Preservation, and Development

That shuttered row of buildings on the east side of the street is an example of urban renewal in action—the process of eminent domain.

Within the scope of the design plan above, this will be a park plaza. This is part of the Rheingold Rennaisance Development to the North, and part of the West Bushwick Urban Renewal Area.

In this long struggling corner of Bushwick, the future is creeping up. The map points the way, the shuddered stores wait in graffiti'd patience for the wrecking ball and a better future.

i think i recall you mentioning that the (that brown clump of homogeneous public housing buildings built in about 1960, for the rest of you) were one of the oldest housing in , yeah?

and yo, HPD got MAD UPZ all over that block, son! ;)

glad to see more, upfromflames; i'd been meaning to comment that i went to the exhibit last friday - outstanding!! fascinating stuff, well worth the visit. i spent about twnety minutes staring at that last pic you posted here.
