America's Next Great City

Some shots of Center City Philadelphia, my home and the city of brotherly love. While some patches of Philly remain deindustrialized and blighted, Center City and its surrounding neighborhoods are booming. Waves of gentrification are spreading out in all directions; many people like myself are working hard to ensure it's smart growth.

I think Philadelphia is more like America's first great city.

I wonder how long it took to put up the giant banner?

And in the second photo, I like the no turn sign accompanying the one way sign pointing left. If the only way you can turn is left, then not being able to turn on a red light is a no-brainer. At least on this side of the ocean, it is. Cool find, rod.

EG: i was going to post the EXACT SAME comment. that banner is a big slap in the face to (anglo-)american history.

boo on that!

St. Patrick's Fire

I was driving a friend home after celebrating St. Paddy's, when I encountered a large number of police cars and fire trucks passing me on the street. And so another adventure began... On Ontario Street, the block west of Pie-IX was...
