Snapshots from Mid-City

The Canal Street Streetcar takes you from the CBD up through Mid-City. Here are some shots I took in the area this past December. As you can see, this neighborhood, much like most of the city, is still reeling from the aftermath of Katrina. The further you travel from downtown, the more damage you'll see. Entire street blocks still have their first floors boarded up. As is still the case, visitors without permission were not allowed in the Lower Ninth Ward. To be fair I must say that there is a considerable amount of reconstruction taking place in Mid-City, and the Mid-City Neighborhood Association is doing great things to help this area recover.

Floyd Bennett Field: Let All Flags Fly

Community Gardens are an oasis in the fabric of the city. They dot formerly vacant lots and open spaces across the city. The biggest community garden is at Floyd Bennett Field at far edge of Brooklyn, on Jamaica Bay. It...
